Knitted Series

Despite the formal difference with Blase paintings, the Knitted series is in continuity with the artist's traditional approach: starting from an existing work and making a discreet modification to it, respectful of the original fabrication.

The childish and kitsch aspect of the embroidery canvas makes it possible to go even further in the transgression of the original subject, a hundred hours of work is generally necessary to make them.

“What I like about these works is the reappropriation. Originally, I wanted to co-fabricate them with seniors, so I contacted retirement residence where you can find sometimes needlepoint clubs, but direction refused.

Which is a pity because the elderly people also have a sense of humour! So I had to do without, but I have not given up the idea of working with a part of the population that still has a lot to do and give.

What I also like with this project relationship with time which is also the biggest constraint.

In a society where everything has to be done as quickly as possible, the making of these embroidery is the opposite of this trend; there is nothing technological, just time spent on an idea.

I am naturally impatient and all my life I have found myself fascinated by work that requires patience and meticulousness.”
